At Farmington High School On March 20th, 2026 The staff had a Professional Development day and a wellness day to let the staff relax and have fun. The staff had stations in every classroom, consisting of Karaoke, Knitting, Reading- and more.
On the last PD day one of the most prestigious honors of the year was also handed out that day. There was also a competition between members from each school to earn the ‘Wellness Trophy’. The afternoon consisted of going to 3 different “wellness sessions”. There were many choices to choose from.
Michelle Strobl, a math teacher at FHS describes her favorite part of PD days.
“Usually it is a full day of meetings discussing what is going on and what we need to do to help the school year to continue running smoothly. Then some collaboration time within departments that then can split up into even more specific groups like, just algebra 1 teachers,” said Strobl.
Jonathon Bird, A Physical Education teacher at the FHS describes some valuable things he has learned from PD Days.
“Valuable things I have learned at PD Days have been learning how other departments function and how they can incorporate different learning techniques within their classrooms,” said Bird.
There were eight PD Days throughout this current school year.
“I do feel that there are a little too many PD Days. Days where students aren't in the buildings, at times, feel isn't what is best for them,” said Bird.
Next year there will be eight PD Days on the 2026-2027 calendar. They include four days before the school year begins as well as days in September and November And January through March.
