The suspense finally ended on Jan. 9th when the Farmington High School king and queen were revealed to be Kyle Grey and Niyah Hayward. The grand reveal was at the basketball game, which ended with a crushing victory for Farmington against Ste. Genevieve, 81-55.
Niyah Hayward, a senior at FHS, was very excited to get to wear the crown.
“Winning Winter Homecoming Queen is such an honor!” said Hayward, “It means the world to me that I got to hold such an honor and that my peers would choose me to be crowned as Queen.”
Hayward was active on the campaign circuit encouraging students to vote for her.
“I posted on instagram and hung up a poster in the cafeteria to campaign,” said Hayward.
“I plan to keep my crown in my Senior Memory Box to look back at this amazing memory!”
Ezekiel Lee is not only a member of the varsity basketball team, but he also had never seen a Winter Coronation before.
“No, the stuff other than the game didn’t distract me,” said Lee. “The Winter Coronation was cool I guess, I had never seen one before.”
With the voting process requiring the entire school to vote, Mrs. Allen did her best to make it fun and fair. Mrs. Allen is the sponsor of the student council, which puts her in charge of the Winter Coronation.
“I put the ceremony together by looking at other schools and seeing what they do, then taking what I liked out of each one,” said Allen. “Most schools only vote on female students from each grade and have male escorts. However, I wanted Farmington's to have equal representation for both female and male students, therefore, male students are voted on independently just like female students.”
FHS is already making plans for next year’s Winter Coronation.
