Death of Mac Miller
09/12/18
Many fans and followers of 26 year old Mac Miller (Malcolm James McCormick) were left shocked and heartbroken after he was found dead in his home last Friday morning.
Sources say it was an overdose that took this star’s life. It has been said by many that Miller struggled with drug use for awhile, but seemed to be hesitant to admit to it or to get help. “If a bunch of people think I am a huge drug addict, OK. Cool. What can I really do? Go talk to all those people and be like ‘Naw man, it’s really not that simple?’” he said. “Have I done drugs? Yeah. But am I a drug addict? No,” he told Rolling Stone. This was during an interview that was released just over a month ago, titled “Mac Miller Wants You to Know He’s Ok”.
Miller admitted in 2013 to Complex Magazine that he had been reliant on “lean”, which is a combination of various over-the-counter medications and carbonated drinks. However, he also said that he beat his addiction to lean in 2012. His friend Jimmy Murton stated that in his opinion, it was unbelievable that Miller stopped, and that it was ‘one of the most impressive things he’s ever done.’
Numerous celebrities tweeted their condolences when they heard the news, including Post Malone, Chance the Rapper, J. Cole, Khalid, and Victoria Justice. Fans waited for the response of one particular artist and ex-girlfriend of Mac, Ariana Grande. Grande did not post anything right away, but broke the silence with a black and white photo of Mac with no caption on Instagram. She disabled all abilities to comment on her account due to an overwhelming amount of hate, blame for the death, and even death threats.
Despite the immense amount of Mac Miller stans that were quick to blame Ariana for the overdose, a friend of Mac by the name of Shane Powers defended her. “There could not have been anybody more supportive of him being sober than Ariana,” he stated. “This little girl was unbelievably involved and helpful to him being healthy.
