Friday, March 27 was the date for the Staff vs. Students basketball game here at FHS. This event is hosted by Stuco every year and is a competitive good time for both sides. Mainly going back and forth between both teams until about half time, the students slowly but surely outscored the staff into the end of the fourth quarter.
Students won this year’s game by a good margin, a winning streak built up by the staff has finally been broken. The staff team consisted of Mr. Callahan, Mr. Johnson, Mr. Vaughn, Mr. Bird, Mrs. Baker, Mrs. Anslow, Mrs. Scott, Mr. McIntyre, Mrs. McIntyre. On the student side we have Ella Scott, Cooper Tripp, Tatem Tinsley, Oscar Milan, Corben Phillips, Ryder Lynn, John Klinkhardt, Kale Tiefenauer, Brayden Diaz, Benny Howard, Brayden Cooper, Tyler Dickerson.
This year had a surprisingly loud and packed student section, the past few years have been very hyped up with livestreams, microphones for the students, cheerleaders, and when players are in timeout cheerleaders toss you a little gift. An all around loud and eventful day for the Black Knights and a nice way to kick back for the students. The student who scored the most for the Knights is Kale Tiefenauer, he was followed by cooper tripp.
The two who scored the most on the staff team are Coach Callahan and Coach Bird. Both stated they thought it would go differently, expecting from last year playing a more well rounded team. They scored mostly in the 2nd and 3rd quarter leading up on the students but ultimately falling short a little past halftime.
The Previous year for the students was a harsh loss that was inflicted by coach Bird’s performance. He scored most of the points for the staff including 3 dunks, one being a posterizer on somebody. Along with Callahan’s 3 point performance scoring the 2nd most points and having a near double-double with the amount of assists he had.
FHS takes the time for the students to let loose and have a little fun once and a while around campus, including going out to the field, going classroom to classroom for activities, to going over to the civic center utilizing our community. This year has been filled with Blitz and lots of time to get all of our students to get what’s needed to get done, and have some fun. This year’s Staff Vs. Student Basketball was a great success and coincides with needed downtime.
