If you’re a hunter or an avid outdoorsmen, you probably have had an encounter with a tick before. Although not dangerous by itself, a bite from one of these creatures can transmit diseases. One of these being lyme disease, the most common tick borne illness.
Lyme disease is caused by a bacteria called “borrelia”. Things to look out for if you’re worried you’ve contracted the disease are pain in joints or muscles, fatigue, fever, Stiffness or swelling of joints, or the most common symptom Bullseye Rash named after the bullseye shape that surrounds the tick bite of an infected person.
You may be wondering, when is lyme disease most common. The most common times for lyme disease is in the summer months, or in warmer climates where ticks thrive. Although lymes disease is uncommon as you only have around a 0% to 50% chance of contracting the disease when filtering out factors such as how long it was feeding, the species and where it came from.
However, there are things you can do to protect yourself. One way, while being the most obvious, is to check your clothes often when outdoors in areas ticks may find appealing. Along with showering and covering up your skin, this will help reduce your chance of getting lymes disease, or ticks in general.
Although it may not be something you should actively worry about. It should be something you think about from time to time when outdoors in areas you think ticks may be.
