The biggest update for the Tigers is their win against The Purdue Boilermakers. They won 40-37 on Saturday, September 15th. Tenured starting kicker for the Tigers, Tucker McCann edged out a 25 yard field goal to clutch the game for Mizzou in the final seconds of the game which allowed the Mizzou team to win by the skin of their teeth and improve Mizzou’s perfect record to 3-0. Some notable players and highlights include a performance by DeMarkus Acy who had an amazing hit against Purdue’s Rondale Moore on an opening play but injured himself. Receiver Emanuel Hall also went down with an unknown injury and was out most of the game, but he did return during the fourth quarter. Quarterback Drew Lock, Senior at Mizzou, really helped the Tigers during this game. He made three touchdowns, one of them a rushing touchdown, an interception and threw for 375 yards. Missouri really appreciates Lock for staying with Mizzou his Senior year, he has really made the Tigers an amazing team.
Many people, including the Tigers’ coach Barry Odom, complained about Missouri’s defense this game. According to this link, Barry Odom had said that his three biggest complaints was the lack of a pass rush, the secondary’s inability to win one-on-one matchups and the zone coverage by his linebackers.
One of the biggest problems for the Tigers this game was Boilermaker’s quarterback David Blough, who threw for 572 yards. This is the longest distance for a quarterback against a Mizzou defense. Ryan Walters, defensive coordinator for Mizzou, said that the linebackers were spending to much time focusing on Blough and not their own assignments. But, the Tigers pulled through and still won.
Missouri’s next game will be Saturday, September 22nd at 11:00AM. This game will be Mizzou versus Georgia.
