One of the best parts of growing up being a teenager is getting your driver’s license. Some students had a difficult time throughout the process while others are waiting for it to start. Two Farmington High School students told us their stories about taking the test and preparing for it.
Wyatt Ivy, a junior at Farmington High School, took the drivers test in January.
“I didn’t prepare for the test in any way, didn’t think I would be nervous until I was sitting next to the cop,” said Ivy.
“I started to have the idea in my head that I had to drive perfectly. I was scared to go one under or one over the speed limit. My advice for taking the test is to not be nervous.”
Jonas Loughary is a freshman at FHS. He turned 15 in October and is yet to take his permit test.
“I plan to use a driver's test app. I also plan to talk to friends and family about their tips and trick questions. Once I get a permit, I will just be putting in hours to get a feel for a license,” said Loughary
“The driving itself is what I'm worried about most, because I am pretty clumsy. I do feel like once I've put in a little time behind the wheel, I'll be just fine.”
According to google, general statistics show that the overall passing rate for a driver's test is around 46%, meaning many people do not succeed on their first attempt. The success of 16-year-olds is also impacted by local factors such as traffic conditions, with busier areas often resulting in lower pass rates. Ivy took the test 3 times before he passed it.
Even though the passing rate is low once kids get their license they are able to have the freedom of going anywhere. Loughary is asked where he would go when he gets his license. “I will probably take some friends or family to some big buffet to celebrate.”
You can take the drivers test at the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Park Hills during any weekday between 8:00am and 5:00pm.
