Are you ever still hungry at lunch? Knights Locker has you covered; they have snacks and drinks for everyone. Knights Locker is open during all lunch shifts. It is located right outside the cafeteria by the stairs. They take cash and debit cards. Senior students and Mrs. Erica Dement run the store.
Some changes coming to Knights Locker are the number of workers for the coming year and the curriculum for the class, Advanced Entrepreneurship.
“Next year, I have selected 8 students to work in Knights Locker (instead of the usual 4). We are going to do things similar to the bank; we will have an A day crew and a B day crew,” Mrs. Dement said.
“I am really excited to have a bigger group of students and to try to incorporate more into the actual class (aside from selling snacks),” said Dement. “Students will be learning more about entrepreneurship as well as how to track inventory, order, and complete deposits at the bank.”
Senior Sara Akins has enjoyed her time working at the store.
“My favorite part of working in the store is making friends and making people smile,” said Akins.
If you would like to work at Knights Locker, you need to apply during the second semester of school. There are requirements to work in the store.
“To be eligible to work in the store, you have to be a senior. We send out applications to juniors during the second semester of the school year, and then we hold interviews for people that applied,” said Dement. “We ensure that selected students have good attendance, grades, and behavior.”
“The advice I would give to incoming staff would be to work hard and take out the trash frequently because it builds up fast,” said Akins.
Akins feels that she has gained valuable work experience and a better work ethic from working at the store.
The store uses the money raised to help business programs at the school, for example, the FBLA and INCubator.
Next year, the staff will be rotating A and B days with the following students: Sophe Crider, Sarah Heberlie, Addison Hubbard, Allyson Hull, Jack Morrison, Kate O’Hara, Andrea Prince, and Isaac Whitener. They offer a variety of chips, candies, bakery items, drinks, and ice cream. There is something for everyone.
