Social media has become a staple of young lives. Now more than ever, it should be used to promote education, hobbies, positivity, and reaching goals, drowning out the toxicity on various platforms. At Farmington High School, a large majority of students use social media. Senior Addison Moore recently started an Instagram page dedicated to the books she reads.
Moore posted her first read and review on Feb. 27, 2025, titled “Twisted Hate” by Ana Huang. Moore typically posts the books she is reading currently and a short description. In her reviews, Moore gives her complete and honest opinion of the book, detailing her likes and dislikes of the writing style and storyline. She aims to read for a minimum of 30 minutes daily.
“I try to read every night before bed,” Moore said. “Sometimes it looks a little bit different. Some nights, I just read a chapter or a few pages. It helps me sleep better.”
Moore started her page because of her love for reading. She has been reading for fun since middle school and typically goes for mystery and romance novels. She avidly seeks out other book pages and appreciates honest reader reviews. Moore is inspired by other readers’ selections, and even buys some of the books they recommend.
“Sometimes my friends will ask me for book recommendations, and I thought it’d be cool to share what I’m reading, and, once I finish a book, share what I thought of it,” Moore explained.
Moore has a “book pile” on her nightstand that grows frequently with each book purchase she makes. She claims that she is always reading something and loves to share her selections with others. Moore owns Kindle Unlimited, making it easier to read books faster. She also has a long list of books on her Goodreads account.
Moore’s favorite book that she has posted so far is titled “The Inmate” by Freida McFadden. She finished this book in less than two days, which is rare for her. Since then, Moore has gone on to read two more of McFadden’s books, including “The Crash” and “The Teacher.”
Moore grows her account by following other book accounts and keeping up with her favorite authors. Over the past few weeks, she has noticed that many book accounts enjoy her selections and reviews, and even repost some of her content.
“I’ve gotten a few follows from other book accounts,” said Moore. “People seem to love that I am honest. If I think a book is not worth your time, I will say that.”
Moore strongly believes that her book page is beneficial to other students and can truly help them in their reading journey. She is always open to discussing books with her peers and loves feedback for her work.
In the future, Moore will continue her book reviews and recommendations, but she can see this hobby turning into something big. Moore says that she would be open to possibly starting a podcast for her book reviews to give readers a more detailed analysis of her selections and thoughts. She also says that she could see herself seeking a career in reading.
“My advice for those who want to start a book account is to use Canva,” said Moore. “Make sure to follow other book accounts, tag and follow authors, and connect with other readers by sharing your thoughts.”
