Farmington High School has gained a new football coach. Coach Brent Eckley has an impressive record, he has been coaching for 30 years and this will be his 31st year, 26 of them as a head coach. Eckley gained his love of coaching from his junior high football coach and his high school football coach. His job will also be to analyze the team’s strengths and weaknesses and use the information in-game strategies.
Eckley said he has always been impressed with Farmington’s good kids, good facilities, the pride in the school, and the great community.
“Farmington is a great community. The school and its programs are important. It’s in a great location for my family, and it’s a good-sized school. I was always impressed with Farmington when I was at Union and Jackson. Good kids and good facilities. Pride in the school.”
Farmington’s athletic director Chad Mills was one of the members who were involved in picking the new coach.
“Coach Eckley’s passion for coaching is evident,” said Mills. “Coach Eckley is a proven winner, and he has been extremely successful throughout his coaching career.”
Mills has the same expectations for Eckley as he does for all his coaching staff. They want to be able to put the best team on the field or court.
“The fall season is always exciting,” said Mills. “We kick off the school year with our fall schedules, and it always brings excitement and optimism for the year ahead.”
Eckley has high expectations for the players on and off the field.
“Our hashtag will be #toughsmartstrong,” explained Eckley. “Those are the things that show if a kid is committed. Our processes will allow him to be those things, which in turn should gain him respect from his community, school, and peers.”
Eckley’s goals for the football program and coaches are to develop and improve athletes’ skills on and off the field. Eckley says players should expect “the practices to be fast, intense, and be filled with constant feedback.” He hopes to see the boys working hard and improving their skills. Eckley has no expectations for the number of wins; he wants to compete, execute, and improve week to week.
The first game of the season will have home-field advantage against North County on Aug. 29, 2025. They will face the Jackson Indians, Coach Eckley’s previous team, on Sept. 19 at home. The first practice is on August 11th.
