A trunk-or-treat is a fun and safe way for kids to enjoy Halloween. People decorate the trunks of their cars and hand out candy to the kids that pass by. It’s a good way for the community to come together, have school spirit, and celebrate Halloween safely. If you are interested in attending, make your calendar for Tuesday, October 29th, from 4. p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Farmington High School parking lot.
Nicholas Vaughn, The instructor of, Jobs for American Graduates, also known as the JAG Program, is this year’s main planner of the event. Vaughn was previously one of the JROTC instructors and moved to the JAG position last year. This year, the trunk-or-treat is expected to be a fun, light-hearted event.
”This year we have almost ten school organizations participating,” said Vaughn. “Student council will be hosting four vehicles, One for each grade level, FFA has the petting zoo which is always a huge hit.”
The trunk or treat planning lands on the presidents of each group. Vaughn’s group, JAG, is the main group that plans the event and speaks to the other groups to discuss what will be planned. Other clubs, such as Student Council, will be bringing four vehicles for each grade level. JROTC normally brings games, FFA sets up a petting zoo and other groups including HOSA are helping out. This collaborative effort ensures plenty of fun activities and treats for everyone to enjoy during the event.
“HOSA is decorating a car for the trunk or treat, we are making games for the kids that come,” Shelbie Mcoy with HOSA said. “And we will be handing out candy,” and, “I think that the trunk or treat will be fun. Especially hanging out with the kids and getting to see them.”
Mcoy seems excited about the Trunk or Treat. According to her, HOSA will be helping out quite a bit. Mcoy also said.”Challenges of setting up for the trunk or treat are finding time to help out due to my tight schedule, and volunteering.
Even though Mcoy has a tight schedule and not much time for events, she seemed to make time for the Trunk or Treat. This also shows how supportive our community is and how they will come together and make time to help volunteer.
”My expectation of this event is that all students represent Farmington High School in the best way possible.” bragged Vaughn, “We have the best community through many different ways. This is just another way that we set the example.”
As we see from Vaughn he expects this event to be the best it can. Making us look forward to what the trunk or treat will offer. So grab your ghouls and goblins and make sure to attend from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
