Ice Skating Rink in Farmington

This year a new aspect is coming to downtown Farmington’s festivities. An ice skating rink is going to be temporarily put into Farmington library’s back parking lot for the first time. Beginning Thanksgiving night, the ice skating rink will open seven days a week until January 5th, then it will remain open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through the end of February. The hours consist of 5:00-9:00p.m. Monday through Friday, noon to 9:00p.m. on Saturday, and noon to 6:00p.m. on Sunday.

It is completely free to skate and you can bring your own ice skates to use at the rink. You can rent ice skates only $2. There also will be different groups, such as sport teams, highschool and church clubs, and more organizations, volunteering and operating the rink each night and they get to take home the money from that night’s skate rentals. Drug/alcohol use will be prohibited at the rink.

Bringing hockey into this ice skating rink is also on the table. Dustin Unger states that, “It won’t be allowed during the open skate time, but we are exploring opportunities to find times where we could allow it.”

Dustin Unger has noted that they are trying to also have an ice skating rink next year as well. “The plan is for this to be an annual thing. That it is open every year around this time.” He states. Next year, instead of the ice skating rink being put in the library’s back parking lot, the plan is to move it to the parking lot at the factory.

This ice skating rink is going to be one of Farmington’s most notable winter festivities. If you are going to go skate, remember to be respectful to the other skaters and skate your heart out!
